Microwave Molding
(Recommended)
Items Needed:
Microwave
Two Paper Towels
Microwavable Plate
Slotted Spoon
Bowl of Cold Water
Fitting Instructions
Step 1: Wrap & Protect
Wet a paper towel with water, roll it like a snake, and firmly tuck it between the channels of the mouth guard. Wrap the mouth guard in another wet paper towel and place it on a microwave-safe plate with the channels facing upwards. Do not wrap the strap of a strapped mouth guard in the paper towel.
Step 2: Microwave
Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Please remove with caution: Mouth guard and paper towel will be hot.
Step 3: Remove & Dunk
Carefully unwrap the mouth guard, removing all paper towels, and drop the mouth guard directly into the bowl of cold water. Please use caution as the paper towel and mouth guard could be very hot. Allow the mouth guard to rest in the bowl of cold water for 3-5 seconds.
Step 4: Gently Bite
Place the guard in your mouth and gently bite down. Be careful not to bite too hard to ensure you don’t bite through the mouth guard material. If possible, use a mirror to ensure you get the mouth guard set properly on your teeth.
Step 5: Press & Mold
Press the front of mouth guard against teeth. Apply pressure on the inside by using your fingers or by placing your tongue to the roof of your mouth while pushing the mouth guard material towards the teeth. Make sure to close your lips and suck for a minute. The goal is to get the fitting material into the grooves between your teeth to ensure an optimal and lock down fit.
Warning: If you have braces, do NOT press the front of the mouth guard against teeth and do NOT suck. The mouth guard will form naturally around braces.
Step 6: Compete
Delta Dental’s patented fitting material will shrink 12-24 hours after you complete the fitting process ensuring you get a lock down fit.
Boiling Water Method
Items Needed:
Stove (or Other Heat Source)
Pot of Water
Slotted Spoon or Spatula
Bowl of Cold Water
Fitting Instructions
Step 1: Boil the Water
Place the pot of water on the stove and heat the water to boiling. Turn off the stove and remove the pot of water from the burner.
Step 2: Dip the Guard
Using the slotted spoon or spatula, carefully lower the guard into the water for 10 seconds. If you’re fitting a strapped mouth guard, hold the strap and dip the mouthpiece into the water ensuring that the strap does not get submerged.
Step 3: Remove & Dunk
Using the slotted spoon or spatula, carefully remove the guard from the water. Drop the mouth guard directly into the bowl of cold water.
